# Configure the Case Compare Page Layout

You can customize the _Case Compare Page_ to specify how Vault displays data on the following pages:

* **Inbox Item to Case Compare**: Allows users to compare data between a current _Inbox Item_ and a matched record.
* **Case Version Compare**: Allows users to compare data between different _Case_ versions or _Cases_.

## Customize the Inbox Item Follow-Up Case Compare Layout

To access the _Case Compare Followup_ layout, navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Pages > Case Compare Page > Case Compare Followup**. In the listed page _Sections_, the _Default Filter Options_ section controls the default filters that are enabled each time the page is loaded. We recommend showing new and modified as a base but you may want to show more detail by default. All other page sections correspond to sections with fields on the layout.

Note: We recommend including the Duration (status) and Type fields in the Adverse Event section. If you do not do this, Vault incorrectly indicates records with matching and missing values as modified on the Inbox Item to Case Compare page.

### Customize Fields

You should include all fields that require manual review so users can decide if they want to apply or ignore those field values. If your Vault uses Rules Based Narratives, ensure you display the _Narrative Preview_ field so users can select which narrative to include when they promote to Case. Users cannot select the _Accept Change_ checkbox for the _Narrative Preview_ field for template-generated narratives.

To customize fields displayed on both pages:

1. On the _Case Compare Followup_ page, select the section to which you want to add or remove fields.
2. Select **Edit**.
3. Add or remove the **Fields** as applicable.
4. Optional: Drag and drop fields to modify the order they appear on the layout.
5. Select **Save**.

Note: For the Inbox Item to Case Compare page, Vault uses all non-displayed fields for data merging, regardless of which fields you configure to display on the pages.

### Layout Considerations

Consider the following as you customize the layout:

* You can add both custom and standard fields to the layout.
* Do not add _Reason Omitted_ fields to the layout.
* You cannot add the same field to multiple sections.
* Vault cannot merge lookup or formula fields.
* You cannot add custom _Case_ child object sections to the layout. Vault copies any custom child records to the new _Case_ version, though the custom child objects are not visible to users on the page.
* Vault copies up to two custom child objects and up to 100 records per custom child object to the new _Case_ version.

## Configure User Permissions

The following user permissions and security apply to the _Case Compare Page_ page:

* Users must have _View_ access to the _Case Compare Page_ in their permission set.
* If your Vault uses Atomic Security for objects, users can only view and merge object field values to which they have _Read_ access.
* If users are missing _Read_ permissions at the field or object level, fields adhere to their default promote to follow-up behavior on the _Inbox Item to Case Compare_ page.
* The audit log records updates as performed by Vault.
