# Enable Signal Detection Plans

With the 26R2 release, you can use _Signal Detection Plans_ to monitor product safety in a centralized area and to define the methodology for performing signal detection and review scope for a _Product_, _Product Family_, or _Aggregate Reporting Group_.

## Overview

Complete the following procedures to configure _Signal Detection Plans_ in your Vault:
1. [Update the default object type for _Signal Activity_.][1]

3. [Update object lifecycles][3]. 
4. [Update atomic security][4]. 
5. [Grant permissions][5]. 
6. [Activate document types][6]. 
7. [Optional: Configure tabs][7]. 

## Update Default Object Type for Signal Activity {#default-activity-object-type}

We recommend making the _Signal Activity Quantitative Review_ object type the default on the _Signal Activity_ object: 
1. Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Objects > Signal Activity**. 
2. Select **Edit**.
3. Set the _Default Object Type_ field to **Quantitative Review**.
4. Select **Save**.
5. Navigate to the **Object Types** tab. 
6. Select **Base Signal Activity**.
7. Select **Edit**.
8. Set the _Status_ field to **Inactive**.  
9. Select **Save**.

## Update Object Layouts {#layouts}

Configure the following object layouts:

### Update the Signal Product Tier Layout {#product-tier-layout}

To update the _Signal Product Tier_ object layout, insert the following related object sections:

### Update the Signal Detection Plan Layout {#signal-detection-plan-layout}

To update the _Signal Detection Plan_ object: 

1. Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Objects > Signal Detection Plan > List Layout** and reorder the fields as follows:
    * _Name_
    * _Description_
    * _Aggregate Reporting Group_
    * _Product Family_
    * _Therapeutic Area_
    * _Tier_
    * _Plan Version_
    * _Plan Version Effective Date_
    * _Plan Version Summary_
2. Navigate to the **Layouts** tab and select the applicable layout. 
3. Add the following pages:
    * _Plan Details_
    * _In Effect_
4. On the _In Effect_ page, insert the following related object sections: 
    * _Signal Product Profiles_
    * _Signal Reporting Periods_
        * For the _Creation Option_, select **Prevent record creation**
5. After the _Signal Reporting Periods_ section, insert a detail form section as follows: 
    * **Section Label**: Enter `System`
    * **Section Layout**: Select **Detail Form - Two Columns**
6. Ensure the _System_ section includes the _ID_ field. If the layout does not include the _ID_ field, you will not be able to update the _Plan Version Summary_ field.
7. On the _Plan Details_ page, edit the _Details_ section name to `Plan Details`. 
8. Ensure the _Plan Details_ section includes the following fields:
    * _Name_
    * _Description_
    * _Plan Version_
    * _Plan Version Effective Date_
    * _Plan Version Summary_
    * _Plan End Date_
    * _Plan Inactivation Reason_
9. After the _Plan Details_ section, insert a detail form section as follows: 
    * **Section Label**: Enter `Product Details`
    * **Section Layout**: Select **Detail Form - One Column**
10. Add the following fields to the _Product Details_ section: 
    * _Aggregate Reporting Group_
    * _Product Family_
    * _Therapeutic Area_
    * _Tier_
    * _Tier Override Reason_
    * _Product Surveillance Start Date_
    * _Product Surveillance End Date_
11. After the _Product Details_ section, insert related object sections using the table below.
12. After the _Case Routing Criteria_ section, insert the _Signal Detection Plan_ related document section and enter `Documents` as the _Section Label_.

Optionally, to create _Signal Detection Plans_ for _Products_ in multiple _Therapeutic Areas_ that share common strategies, navigate to the **Fields** tab and select **Allow user to select multiple values** for the _Therapeutic Area_ field.

### Update the Signal Detection Plan Signature Layout {#signal-detection-plan-signature-layout}

To update the _Signal Detection Plan Signature_ object layout, ensure the _Details_ section includes the following fields: 
* _Status_
* _Signature Name_
* _Signer_
* _Signature Time_
* _Signed Record_

### Update the Signal Activity Layout {#activity-layout}

Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Objects > Signal Activity >** **List Layout** and reorder the fields as follows: 
* _Name_
* _Description_
* _Signal Detection Plan_
* _Aggregate Reporting Group_
* _Product Family_
* _Tier_
* _Activity Schedule_
* _Schedule Start Date_
* _Case States to Include_
* _Activity Review Due in Days_
* _Default Workbench Report Set_
* _Default Calculations Setting_
* _Default Workbench Dashboard_
* _Signal Product Profile_

Optionally, you can navigate to the **Fields** tab and select **Allow user to select multiple values** for the _Case States to Include_ field depending on your business needs.

Then, update the following _Signal Activity_ object type layouts:

#### Update the Signal Activity Individual Case Review Layout {#activity-icr-layout}

To update the object layout for the _Signal Activity Individual Case Review_ object type: 
1. Ensure the _Details_ section includes the following fields: 
    * _Description_
    * _Aggregate Reporting Group_
    * _Product Family_
    * _Case States to Include_
    * _Activity Review Due in Days_
    * _Schedule Start Date_
2. After the _Details_ section, insert related object sections using the [table][24] below. 
3. Create layout rules using the [table][25] below and select **Save**.

3. Create the following layout rules and select **Save**:

To update the _Signal Activity Data Source_ object:

**Note**: You can configure _Signal Activity Product Identifiers_ only if your Vault is licensed for Veeva Safety Signal.

To update the _Signal Activity Product Identifier_ object: 
1. Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Objects > Signal Activity Product Identifier >** **List Layout** and reorder the fields as follows:
    * _Name_
    * _Activity_
    * _Signal Detection Plan_
    * _Activity Data Source_
    * _Product Identifier_
    * _Product Identifier Value_
2. Navigate to the **Layouts** tab and select the _Signal Activity Product Identifier_ object layout. 
3. Ensure the _Details_ section includes the following fields: 
    * _Activity_
    * _Activity Data Source_
    * _Product Identifier_
    * _Product Identifier Value_
    * _Signal Detection Plan_

### Update the Signal Activity Alert Rule Set Layout {#activity-alert-rule-set-layout}

**Note**: You can configure _Signal Activity Alert Rule Sets_ only if your Vault is licensed for Veeva Safety Signal.

To update the _Signal Activity Alert Rule Set_ object: 
1. Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Objects > Signal Activity Alert Rule > List Layout** and reorder the fields as follows:
    * _Name_
    * _Activity_
    * _Signal Detection Plan_
    * _Tier_
    * _Signal Alert Rule Set_
2. Navigate to the **Layouts** tab and select the _Signal Activity Alert Rule Set_ object layout. 
3. Ensure the _Details_ section includes the following fields: 
    - _Activity_
    - _Signal Alert Rule Set_
    - _Signal Detection Plan_
    - _Tier_
4. Create the following layout rules:

1. Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Objects > Signal Activity Case Routing Criteria > List Layout** and reorder the fields as follows:
    * _Name_
    * _Activity_
    * _Case Routing Criteria_
2. Navigate to the **Layouts** tab and select the _Signal Activity Case Routing Criteria_ object layout. 
3. Ensure the _Details_ section includes the following fields: 
    * _Activity_
    * _Case Routing Criteria_
    * _Signal Detection Plan_
    * _Tier_
4. Create the following layout rules:

### Update the Signal Product Profile Layout {#product-profile-layout}

To update the _Signal Product Profile_ object layout, add the following fields to the _Details_ section: 
* _Signal Detection Plan_
* _Therapeutic Area_

Optionally, you can navigate to the **Fields** tab and select **Allow user to select multiple values** for the _Therapeutic Area_ field depending on your business needs.

## Update Object Lifecycles {#lifecycles}

You can configure a _Signal Detection Plan_ object workflow according to your business needs. Alternatively, the sections below describe how to configure the following object lifecycles for an example _Signal Detection Plan_ process:

### Update the Signal Activity Lifecycle {#signal-activity-lifecycle}

On the _Signal Activity_ object lifecycle, configure the following user action for the _In Review_, _In Effect_, and _Inactive_ states: 
* **Condition Type**: Select **Formula evaluates to TRUE**
* **IF this formula is TRUE**: Enter `if(signal_detection_plan__vr.state__v = 'in_revision_state__v', true, false)`
* **Allow the following actions**: Select **Change State to** > **In Revision**
    * **Action Label**: Enter `Change State to In Revision`   

### Update the Signal Detection Plan Lifecycle {#signal-detection-plan-lifecycle}

To control access to _Signal Activities_ based on the _Signal Detection Plan_, set atomic security on relationships for the applicable states of the _Signal Detection Plan_ object lifecycle to ensure the default behavior option for the _Signal Activities_ object is _Edit_.

### Update Signal Activity Atomic Security {#activity-atomic-security}

To control access to _Signal Activity_ child objects based on the _Signal Activity_, set atomic security on relationships for the applicable states of the _Signal Activity_ object lifecycle to ensure the default behavior option for the following child objects is _Edit_:
* _Signal Activity Alert Rule Set_
* _Signal Activity Case Routing Criteria_
* _Signal Activity Data Source_
* _Signal Activity Product Identifier_
* _Signal Activity Search Criteria_

Ensure your permission sets are updated to grant the appropriate level of access for users and Admins to objects, fields, and tabs according to your organization's process. Manage permissions from **Admin > Users & Groups > Permission Sets > [Permission Set]**.
