# Enable JFMDA Device Coding

With the 26R3 release, Veeva Safety supports the Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA) Device Code dictionary for coding medical device information. Veeva updates Vault's _JFMDA Device Code Dictionary_ once a year in the spring, in line with the JFMDA release schedule.

## Prerequisite

To enable this feature in your Vault, you must first enable the IMDRF Dictionary for Maintenance, Case Processing, and Submissions.

To make device-related case processing more efficient, we recommend enabling Automatic Adverse Event Device Code Creation.

## Overview

To enable this feature in your Vault:

* [Configure object layouts][1]
* [Create the _JFMDA Device Code Dictionary_][2]
* Display the _JFMDA Device Code_ object in _Business Admin_
* Create a custom _JFMDA_ sub-tab on the _Dictionaries_ tab for the _JFMDA Device Codes_ object
* [Update the _Case Entry Actions_ permission set][3]

## Configure Object Layouts {#object-layouts}

To configure object layouts:

* Copy the following standard object layouts:
   * _JFMDA_ object type on the _Dictionary_ object
   *  _Case Product Device Code_
   * _Localized Case Product Device Code_
* Add the _JMDN Code_ field to object layouts as follows:
   * On the _Device_ object type on the _Product_ object, below the _Description of Device_ field
   * On the _Product Registration_ object, below the _Device Market Date_ field

## Create the JFMDA Device Code Dictionary {#create-dictionary}

To create the _JFMDA Device Code Dictionary_:

1. Navigate to **Business Admin > Objects > Dictionaries**.
2. Select **Create**.
3. In the _Create Dictionary_ dialog, select **JFMDA**, then select **Continue**.
4. On the _Create JFMDA_ page, enter `JFMDA Device Code Dictionary` in the **Name** field.
5. Update the **Active JFMDA Version**.
6. Select **Save**.

## Update the Case Entry Actions Permission Set {#permission-set}

To update the custom _Case Entry Actions_ permission set, add _View_ permissions to:

* The following control fields on the _Case Product Device Code_ object:
   * _Device Code_
   * _JFMDA Device Code_
