# Manage the JFMDA Device Code Dictionary

Veeva Safety supports the Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA) Device Code dictionary for coding medical device information. You control the [version][1] of the JFMDA dictionary Vault uses.

## Prerequisites

To manage the _JFMDA Device Code Dictionary_, you must:

* Enable JFMDA Device Coding
* Configure the _IMDRF Dictionary_

## Update the JFMDA Device Code Dictionary {#update}

To update the _JFMDA Device Code Dictionary_:

1. Navigate to **Business Admin > Objects > Dictionaries > JFMDA Device Code Dictionary**.
2. Optional: To sync the list of available JFMDA versions, select **Fetch Dictionary Releases** from the **All Actions** menu.
3. Select **Edit**.
4. Select an **Active JFMDA Version** value.
5. Select **Save**.

Upon saving, Vault moves the _JFMDA Device Code Dictionary_ to the _Importing_ state. Once complete, Vault moves the _JFMDA Device Code Dictionary_ to the _Active_ state and updates all [_JFMDA Device Codes_][2] to correspond to the selected version, creating new _JFMDA Device Codes_ as required.

## View Active JFMDA Device Codes {#view}

To view a list of the active _JFMDA Device Codes_, navigate to **Dictionaries > JFMDA**. Select any record to view its details, including the:

* Device code type
* Hierarchical level
* Links to any corresponding Level 1 or Level 2 hierarchical records
* Corresponding IMDRF code
