# Troubleshoot Signal Calculation Errors

You can troubleshoot errors when ad-hoc and scheduled _Signal Calculation_ runs fail for:
* A simple (SQL) calculation: Vault creates an error log in **Business Admin > Objects > Workbench Logs**. By default, Vault sorts these logs by the day and time the error was encountered, starting with the most recent. In the _Workbench Log Data_ field, select the attachment to download the error log to review and resolve the issues.
* An advanced calculation: For example, if the calculation fails to generate a score for a _Product-Event Combination_ (PEC), Vault completes the action and includes descriptive advanced calculation error messaging for:
    * Ad-hoc calculation runs in the _Preview_ section
    * Ad-hoc calculation runs in the downloaded CSV file
    * The _Advanced Calculation Errors_ field on _Statistical Data_ records
* Dynamic filters: If the _Signal Calculation Run_ fails to dynamically retrieve a filter value for a _Workbench View Parameter_ filter (criteria filter) or for a _Workbench View Column_ filter and the run fails as a result, consider the following solutions:
    * Navigate to the associated _Signal Reporting Period_ and _Signal Product Profile_ and set any missing required filter values.
    * If the filters should be optional, set the respective _Workbench View Parameters_ as optional.

For scheduled _Signal Calculation_ runs, Vault:
* Sets the relevant _Signal Reporting Periods_ to the _Error_ state.
* Sends a notification to the job owner (by default, this is the System Admin) for each _Signal Reporting Period_ that resulted in an error during the scheduled run.
    * The notification includes a CSV file with error details such as the _Signal Calculation_, _Statistical Data_ record creation, _Signal Case Series_ creation, or _Signal Alert Rules_ that failed.
    * If an error occurs during part of a _Signal Calculation_ run, records that Vault successfully created or updated before the point of failure will still be accessible. Before running the calculation again, delete these records.

Advanced calculation failures can occur in the following scenarios:
* The Empirical Bayes Geometric Mean (EBGM) calculation cannot converge (settle on a stable and reliable score).
* The EBGM calculation does not have valid or enough data. For example, when there are no results for the product of interest or the calculation includes division by zero.
* The Information Component (IC) results in a negative or positive infinity.
