# Configuring Document Source Tracking Settings

This article describes the configuration options that are associated with document source and copy relationships.

## Original Source Tracking

You can configure whether or not Vault keeps track of a copied document's original source via the _Original Source_  relationship. To modify this, navigate to **Admin** > **Settings** > **General Settings** and select the **Enable Original Source Tracking** checkbox.

Note that _Original Source_ is version sensitive, meaning that if the _Original Source_ relationship points to V1.0, it will always point to V1.0 even if a user uploads a new version of the source. When enabled, all existing documents will have the _Original Source_ relationship applied where applicable.

## Copy Depth

Copy Depth shows how far away a document is from the _Original Source_. It appears as a field on the Doc Info page, but is disabled by default. You can enable it in **Admin > Configuration > Document Fields**. Original Source Tracking must be enabled before this field will record a document's copy depth.
