# Duplicate Detection for Cases

After performing _Case_ data entry, you can perform duplicate detection on _Cases_.

## About Duplicate Detection for Cases

You can perform duplicate detection on _Cases_ after data entry. Vault will return a list of duplicate _Cases_ and _Inbox Items_ on the _Potential Matches_ page, if any.

Duplicate detection for _Cases_ uses the same logic as for _Inbox Items_. For more information, see <a href="/en/lr/01141/">Promote to Case</a>.

## Prerequisites

Before you can use this feature, your Admin must:
* <a href="/en/lr/760311/">Enable duplicate detection during _Case_ processing</a>.
* <a href="/en/lr/735245/">Enable _Case_ version compare with summary</a>.

## Detect Duplicate Cases

Use the _Duplicate Search on Case_ action to perform duplicate detection on _Cases_. This action is not available on child or parent records or on imported _Cases_.

To perform duplicate detection on _Cases_:
1. Navigate to the **Cases** tab and select a _Case_ record. 
2. Select the **Duplicate Search on Case** (<img class="inline" src="https://platform.veevavault.help/assets/images/saf-duplicate-search-on-case-icon.png" alt="saf-duplicate-search-on-case-icon" style="" />) icon or from the **All Actions** menu, select **Duplicate Search on Case**.<br>If there are any duplicates, Vault displays the _Potential Matches_ page.
3. Select a duplicate record to compare with the current _Case_.
4. Select one (1) of the following actions: 
    * **Close**: Return to the current _Case_ record.
    * **Compare Details**: Compare the current _Case_ with another _Case_. This action does not appear when comparing the current _Case_ with an _Inbox Item_. Selecting this action directs you to the <a href="/en/lr/735242/">_Case Version Compare_</a> page, which highlights key differences between _Case_ records.
