# Copy a Case

Vault supports copying an existing _Case_, including all records, custom fields, and links to original _Case_ documents, to create up to 100 new _Cases_, which can then be individualized and processed as needed. This is useful, for example, when you need to create multiple _Cases_ from a single literature report.

When you copy a _Case_, Vault copies:

* All parent and child records
* Custom fields from source documents
* _Inbound Transmission_ records
* The following related records:
 * _Parent Information_
 * Domestic _Localized Cases_
 * _Localized Parent Information_
* _Case_ documents with the following classifications:
 * _Case > Source > Adverse Event Report_
 * _Case > Source > Attachment_
 * _Case > Source > Literature_
 * _Literature > Literature Article_

In addition, on referenced documents, Vault updates the _Case_ field to include links to all copied _Cases_.

Note: For Japan domestic Cases, Vault copies Case Product Registrations to the copied domestic Japan Localized Case. For global Cases and non-Japan domestic Cases, Vault does not copy Case Product Registrations to copied foreign Japan Localized Cases.

For each newly created _Case_, Vault:

* Sets the version number to `0.1`, the lifecycle state to its initial state, and the _Intake Method_ to _Copy_.
* Generates new _WWUIDs_ and _UIDs_.
* Recalculates the _Case Access Group_.
* Links the _Case_ to the related _Inbox Item_ on the copied _Case_.
* Generates a new _Narrative_ document with the content from the source _Case_.
* Generates a _Case Relationship_ record with a link to the original _Case_ in the _Linked Cases_ section.
* If the initial _Case_ was generated by the Safety-EDC Connection, clears the _Link_ field.
* Logs the source _Case ID_ in the audit log for the _Case_ and all child records.

On the copied _Case_, Vault does not update auto-calculated fields or reevaluate expectedness or assessments.

## Prerequisite

To use the features described on this page, your Admin must enable Case Copy with Linking.

## Copying a Case

To copy a _Case_:

1. Navigate to the _Case_ you want to copy.
2. From the **All Actions** menu, select **Copy Case**.
3. In the _Copy Case_ dialog, enter the number of _Cases_ you want to create. If the _Number of Cases_ field on the _Case_ contains a value, Vault populates that number here.
4. Select **Complete**.
5. On the confirmation dialog, select **Done**.

The length of time required to complete the action depends on the number of copies. You cannot initiate _Copy Case_ again until Vault completes the in-process request. When Vault generates all _Case_ copies, you receive a notification confirming the number of created _Cases_.

## View Copied Cases

You can view a list of all _Case_ copies created from a _Case_. From the **All Actions** menu of the source _Case_, select **Find Copied Cases**. Vault displays a list of all _Cases_ with a _Case Relationship_ record that links to the source _Case_.
