# Signal Detection Overview

Signal detection in Veeva Safety Signal allows you to detect _Product-Event Combinations_ (PECs) using calculations and assess them for signal qualification using alerts. 

## Prerequisites {#prerequisite}

Consider the following prerequisites:
* To perform signal detection, your Admin must <a href="/en/lr/753138/">configure safety views</a>.
* To define the scope of signal detection for a _Product Family_, your Admin must <a href="/en/lr/808068/">configure _Signal Product Profiles_</a>.
* For EVDAS data, your Admin must <a href="/en/lr/795474/">enable EVDAS data import</a> and <a href="/en/lr/773463/">prepare EVDAS data</a> for signal detection.
* To automate the signal detection process, your Admin must <a href="/en/lr/826977/">enable</a> and <a href="/en/lr/826976/">configure</a> scheduled _Signal Calculations_ and alerts.

## Signal Detection Process {#signal-detection-process}

The signal detection process includes the following steps: 
1. <a href="/en/lr/935433/">Run _Signal Calculations_</a> to obtain disproportionality scores to identify PECs.
2. <a href="/en/lr/935435/">Create _Statistical Data_</a> to store _Signal Calculation_ results.
3. <a href="/en/lr/808066/">Run signal alerts</a> to determine whether disproportionality scores meet the threshold to qualify as potential signals.
4. For confirmed PECs that require further investigation, you can <a href="/en/lr/752958/#safety-investigation-pv">create a _Safety Investigation_</a> from the _Statistical Data_ record.
