The signal detection process identifies Product-Event Combinations (PECs) by looking for Signal Reporting Periods linked to a Signal Product Profile and running the calculations and alerts that are associated with the Signal Product Profile. To reduce manual effort, Vault creates Signal Reporting Periods on a schedule for routine signal surveillance reviews. For information about how to create Signal Reporting Periods manually, see Create and Track Product-Event Combinations.

Scheduled creation of Signal Reporting Periods includes the following steps:

  1. You run the Schedule Signal Review action on a Signal Product Profile.
  2. Vault creates schedule-related records and Signal Reporting Periods
  3. Optional: You update the scheduled signal review on a Signal Product Profile.
  4. Optional: You run the Cancel Scheduled Signal Review action on a Signal Product Profile.

Prerequisites

To automate the creation of Signal Reporting Periods:

Schedule Signal Review

To schedule creation of Signal Reporting Periods for a Signal Product Profile

  1. Navigate to Business Admin > Objects > Signal Product Profiles > [Signal Product Profile].
  2. Select the Schedule Signal Review (schedule signal review icon) icon or from the All Actions menu, select Schedule Signal Review.

You can also update or cancel the signal review schedule.

How Vault Creates Scheduled Signal Reporting Periods

After running the Schedule Signal Review action on a Signal Product Profile, Vault:

  1. Creates a Schedule Recurrence record for the Signal Product Profile with the following information:
    • Schedule: Vault maps this value from the Signal Product Profile.
    • Start Date: Vault populates the current date.
    • Signal Product Profile
    • Recurrence Type: Vault populates Signal Product Profile Recurrence.
    • Lifecycle State: Vault sets the state to Initialized.
  2. For the Schedule Recurrence, creates Scheduled Events for up to one year in advance based on the Schedule of the Signal Product Profile. For example, if the Schedule is Monthly and the Start Date is 05 Dec 2025, Vault creates a Scheduled Event for each fifth of the month until 05 Nov 2026
  3. On the Scheduled Date of each Scheduled Event, runs the Safety Scheduler Job.
  4. After the job runs, creates a Signal Reporting Period if one does not already exist for the Signal Product Profile, Product Family, Start Date, and End Date combination. Vault then completes the reporting period with the following information:
Field Description
Lifecycle State If Veeva Safety Signal is enabled in your Vault, Vault sets the lifecycle state to the Queued state type. If only Veeva SafetyDocs is enabled, Vault sets the lifecycle state to the Initial state type.
Start Date Vault populates the Start Date with the Scheduled Date of the Scheduled Event.
End Date Vault populates the End Date by subtracting 24 hours from the Scheduled Date of the next Scheduled Event.
Review Type Vault populates Routine, indicating this reporting period was created from a schedule.
Next Signal Reporting Period Once the next Signal Reporting Period is created from the schedule, Vault uses it to populate this field.
Previous Signal Reporting Period Vault populates the Signal Reporting Period from the previous scheduled review.
