# Signal Review Scheduling

The signal detection process identifies _Product-Event Combinations_ (PECs) by looking for _Signal Reporting Periods_ linked to a _Signal Product Profile_ and <a href="/en/lr/826975/">running the calculations and alerts</a> that are associated with the _Signal Product Profile_. To reduce manual effort, Vault creates _Signal Reporting Periods_ on a schedule for routine signal surveillance reviews. For information about how to create _Signal Reporting Periods_ manually, see <a href="/en/lr/896824/#create-signal-reporting-period">Create and Track Product-Event Combinations</a>.

Scheduled creation of _Signal Reporting Periods_ includes the following steps:
1. [You run the _Schedule Signal Review_ action][1] on a _Signal Product Profile_.
2. [Vault creates schedule-related records and _Signal Reporting Periods_][2].
3. Optional: [You update the scheduled signal review][3] on a _Signal Product Profile_.
4. Optional: [You run the _Cancel Scheduled Signal Review_ action][4] on a _Signal Product Profile_.

## Prerequisites

To automate the creation of _Signal Reporting Periods_:
* <a href="/en/lr/808068/">Configure _Signal Product Profiles_</a>.
* <a href="/en/lr/979941/">Enable signal review scheduling</a>.
* Ensure the _Safety Scheduler Job_ is <a href="/en/lr/22897/#how-to-edit-job-definitions">active</a>.

## Schedule Signal Review {#schedule-review}

To schedule creation of _Signal Reporting Periods_ for a _Signal Product Profile_:
1. Navigate to **Business Admin > Objects > Signal Product Profiles > [Signal Product Profile]**.
2. Select the **Schedule Signal Review** (<img class="inline" src="https://platform.veevavault.help/assets/images/saf-schedule-signal-review-icon.png" alt="schedule signal review icon" style="" />) icon or from the **All Actions** menu, select **Schedule Signal Review**.

You can also [update][3] or [cancel][4] the signal review schedule.

## How Vault Creates Scheduled Signal Reporting Periods {#how-vault-creates-reporting-periods}

After running the _Schedule Signal Review_ action on a _Signal Product Profile_, Vault:
1. Creates a _Schedule Recurrence_ record for the _Signal Product Profile_ with the following information:
    * **Schedule**: Vault maps this value from the _Signal Product Profile_.
    * **Start Date**: Vault populates the current date.
    * **Signal Product Profile**
    * **Recurrence Type**: Vault populates _Signal Product Profile Recurrence_.
    * **Lifecycle State**: Vault sets the state to _Initialized_.
2. For the _Schedule Recurrence_, creates _Scheduled Events_ for up to one year in advance based on the _Schedule_ of the _Signal Product Profile_. For example, if the _Schedule_ is _Monthly_ and the _Start Date_ is _05 Dec 2025_, Vault creates a _Scheduled Event_ for each fifth of the month until _05 Nov 2026_.
3. On the _Scheduled Date_ of each _Scheduled Event_, runs the _Safety Scheduler Job_.
4. After the job runs, creates a _Signal Reporting Period_ if one does not already exist for the _Signal Product Profile_, _Product Family_, _Start Date_, and _End Date_ combination. Vault then completes the reporting period with the following information:

<table>
  <thead>
    <tr>
      <th>Field</th>
      <th>Description</th>
    </tr>
  </thead>
  <tbody>
    <tr>
      <td><em>Lifecycle State</em></td>
      <td>If Veeva Safety Signal is enabled in your Vault, Vault sets the lifecycle state to the <em>Queued</em> state type. If only <a href="/en/lr/01233/">Veeva SafetyDocs</a> is enabled, Vault sets the lifecycle state to the <em>Initial</em> state type.</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td><em>Start Date</em></td>
      <td>Vault populates the <em>Start Date</em> with the <em>Scheduled Date</em> of the <em>Scheduled Event</em>.</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td><em>End Date</em></td>
      <td>Vault populates the <em>End Date</em> by subtracting 24 hours from the <em>Scheduled Date</em> of the next <em>Scheduled Event</em>.</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td><em>Review Type</em></td>
      <td>Vault populates <em>Routine</em>, indicating this reporting period was created from a schedule.</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td><em>Next Signal Reporting Period</em></td>
      <td>Once the next <em>Signal Reporting Period</em> is created from the schedule, Vault uses it to populate this field.</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td><em>Previous Signal Reporting Period</em></td>
      <td>Vault populates the <em>Signal Reporting Period</em> from the previous scheduled review.</td>
    </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>

## Update Scheduled Signal Review {#update-review}

To update the initiated signal review schedule, update the _Schedule_ or _Schedule_ _Start Date_ for this _Signal Product Profile_ and then [schedule the signal review][1].

**Results**

Vault cancels the current scheduled review and initiates a new review with the updated information. Any incompleted _Scheduled Events_ associated with the cancelled review will be deleted.

Vault does not delete any _Signal Reporting Periods_ from the _Signal Product Profile_ even after updating the signal review schedule.

## Cancel Scheduled Signal Reviews {#cancel-scheduled-review}

You can cancel the current signal review schedule for this _Signal Product Profile_ at any time:
1. Navigate to the desired _Signal Product Profile_.
2. Select the **Cancel Scheduled Signal Review** (<img class="inline" src="https://platform.veevavault.help/assets/images/saf-cancel-signal-review-icon.png" alt="cancel-signal-review-icon" style="" />) icon or from the **All Actions** menu, select **Cancel Scheduled Signal Review**. You can run this action only if a _Signal Review Schedule_ has already been initiated.

**Results**

Vault updates the _Signal Product Profile_ as follows:
* Sets the existing _Signal Review Schedule Recurrence_ to _Cancelled_.
* Deletes incompleted _Scheduled Events_ from the existing _Signal Review Schedule Recurrence_.
* Sets the _Schedule Termination Date_.

Vault does not delete any _Signal Reporting Periods_ from the _Signal Product Profile_ even after canceling a signal review schedule.
