# Copy Patient Information from Existing Case

During Case promotion, you can copy a patient's information from an existing Case to the new Case being created from an Inbox Item. You control which details are copied. This feature is useful, for example, when a single patient has experienced multiple unrelated adverse events during a clinical trial.

On the <a href="/en/lr/826980/#complete-the-inbox-item-to-case-compare-page">**Inbox Item to Case Compare**</a> page, after selecting the **New Case - Copy Patient Info** (<img class="inline" src="https://platform.veevavault.help/assets/images/saf-copy-patient-info-icon.png" alt="Patient Info Icon" style="" />) icon, the **New Case - Copy Patient Information** dialog appears.

Consider the following information when copying patient information:

* Select and clear the checkboxes to indicate which information to copy from the original Case. See the [below sections][1] for details on which fields are copied.
* Patient Details are always copied.
* Products with a Drug Role of Concomitant can be copied either to Drug History or Case Products, but not to both. By default, **Copy Concomitant products to Drug History** is selected. To copy Concomitant Products to Case Products, first clear the **Copy Concomitant products to Drug History** checkbox and then select the **Concomitant Products** checkbox.
* Auto-calculation field settings are copied to the new Case.
* If the new Case includes details that are also on the original Case, copied data may appear multiple times on the newly created Case. If this occurs, delete the duplicate data.

### Prerequisites

Consider the following setup requirements for using the **Copy Patient Information from Existing Case** feature:

* Your Admin must enable the <a href="/en/lr/740208/#initial">_Allow Copy Patient Information_</a> setting.
* Depending on your Admin's configuration, suspect Case Products may include those with a Drug Role of Drug Not Administered. See <a href="/en/lr/01294/">Enable Extend Definition of Suspect to Drug Not Administered</a> for details.

## How Information is Copied to the New Case

See the following sections for how Vault maps patient information from the previous Case to the new Case.

For any product with a Drug Role of Concomitant, fields from the following Case Objects are copied to the Drug History section of the new Case:

* Case Product Dosage
* Case Product Substance
