# Code Japan Drug Dictionary Products

Vault supports the PMDA-compliant Japan Drug Dictionary (JDD) for domestic _Case_ and _Localized Case_ processing for Japan. You can search for and add JDrug codes to _External Products_. Vault also supports cross-referencing JDrug codes to the applicable WHODrug dictionary codes to meet additional reporting requirements as needed.

When you add a JDrug code to an _External Product_, if the _Japan Product Code Type_ is _J-Drug Code_, Vault maps the first seven (7) digits of the Local MPID to the G.k.2.3.r.1 Substance / Specified Substance Name data element of PMDA E2B(R3) reports.

For information on processing _Cases_ that may be reportable to the PMDA, see <a href="/en/lr/696910/">Complete Intake and Process Cases for the PMDA</a>.

### Prerequisites

Your organization must maintain a valid JDD license to use the centralized JDD service. In addition, your Admin must configure the following features in your Vault:

* <a href="/en/lr/01348/">Japan Drug Dictionary</a>
* <a href="/en/lr/715865/">PMDA E2B(R3): Export Substance Codes from JDrug Codes</a>

To cross reference JDD codes to WHODrug codes, your Admin must also enable the <a href="/en/lr/782230/">JDrug and WHODrug Cross Reference Tool</a>.

## Browse and Code JDrug Products

In the _Case Products_ section of a domestic _Case_ for Japan, you can search the JDD to add an <a href="/en/lr/917562/#products-section">_External Product_</a>:

1. In the _Case Products_ section, <a href="/en/lr/01162/#product-browsing">access the _Product Browser_</a>. In the top-right corner of the dialog, select **Launch JDrug** to launch the _JDrug Browser_.
   * If you populated the reported _Product_ or _Country Obtained_ field, search results are filtered to those values. The reported _Product_ English term appears below the _Search_ bar.
   * Optionally, you can select **Back to Product Browser** in the top-left corner of the browser to return to the _Product Browser_ to code a _Company Product_.
2. In the **Search** bar, enter or change the search terms, and then select **Search**. Vault checks the terms against the JDrug codes, Drug Names, and Generic Drug Names. <br>When entering a combination of numeric and alphabetic characters to search for a JDrug code, you must enter a space before and after the alphabetic character. For example, to find JDrug code "1234A123", enter your search term as "1234 A 123".
3. To apply a JDrug code, select the code and then select **Confirm**.
4. Select **Save**.

**Result**

The _JDrug_ field appears on the _Create Case Product_ page. Vault adds the selected JDrug code, the manufacturer, and the Local MPID details to the field and sets the _Japan Product Code Type_ field to "J-Drug Code". To remove a JDrug code and its related details, select **Clear Selection**.

On _Localized Products_, Vault updates field values as follows:

* The JDrug code appears in the _Product (Coded)_ field.
* The manufacturer appears in the _Registration Holder/Applicant_ field.
* The Local MPID from the selected JDrug code appears in the _Local MPID_ field.
* "J-Drug Code" appears in the _Japan Product Code Type_ field.

To export the first seven (7) digits of the Local MPID to the <strong>G.k.2.3.r.1 Substance / Specified Substance Name</strong> data element of PMDA E2B(R3) reports, you must also set the <strong>Japan Product Code Type</strong> field to <strong>J-Drug Code</strong>.</p>

## IDF to WHODrug Cross-Referencing {#whodrug-link}

If configured by your Admin, when coding _External Products_ for domestic _Cases_ for Japan and foreign _Localized Cases_ reportable to the PMDA, Vault may cross-reference the selected code with the Iyakuhinmei Data File (IDF) and populate the corresponding field using the WHODrug Cross Reference Tool (CRT) Japan. For more details about IDF to WhoDrug cross-referencing, see <a href="/en/lr/01165/#cross-reference">Code WHODrug Products</a>.
