Use Vault Safety to search and view suggestions from the WHODrug dictionary.

About WHODrug

Vault Safety supports the IDMP-compliant WHODrug dictionary in the C3 format for standardized coding of medicinal products.

When you open the WHODrug Search window, Vault Safety automatically populates and runs the search query with the reported product name and country entered on the External Product or Drug History record.

Code a WHODrug Term

  1. Beside the WHODrug field, select search-whodrug-button.
    The WHODrug Search window appears. Results are automatically filtered by the product name and country entered on the Product or Drug History record.
  2. In the search bar, enter or change the search terms.
    The search runs once you enter two or more characters. Ensure that you use exact spelling for search terms.
  3. To broaden the search results, select one or more Search Columns:
    • MPID: To search through product Medicinal Product Identifiers (MPID), select this column.
    • Drug Name: To search through drug trade names, select this column.
    • Name Specifier: To search through product name differentiators, such as For Children or Sustained Release, select this column.
    • Drug Code: To search through alphanumeric drug codes, select this column.
    • Preferred Name: To search through generic names for the product substance, select this column.
  4. To filter the search results by country, enter country:{code}, where {code} is the ISO three-letter country code.
    For example, Cholecap country:USA.
  5. To run the search query, select execute-search-button.
  6. The table displays the WHODrug product terms that match your search criteria.
    If the search does not return any results, retry the search with more columns.
  7. To add a WHODrug code, select whodrug-add.
  8. Save the page.

Result

The system populates the product information fields using the WHODrug details for the selected product. To remove the product details, select Clear Selection.

WHODrug Browser Fields

The following table describes the WHODrug browser fields.

Field Description
Code Options The whodrug-add button to select a product from the WHODrug dictionary.
Drug Name The brand name under which the product is sold.
MPID The Medicinal Product Identifier (MPID) for the product.
Preferred Name The generic names for the active product substances.
Drug Code The unique identification code for the drug name and active substances.
Country The country where the product is marketed.
Country Code The ISO three-letter country code.
MAH The Marketing Authorization Holder (MAH) in the country of sale.
Pharmaceutical Form The pharmaceutical form in which the product is sold.
Pharmaceutical Strength The strength of the active substance.
Generic Whether the product is a generic product.
Preferred Whether the product is a preferred brand-name drug.
ATC1 The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System level one code and a description of the anatomical group.
ATC2 The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System level two code and a description of the therapeutic subgroup.
ATC3 The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System level three code and a description of the therapeutic or pharmacological subgroup.
ATC4 The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System level four code and a description of the chemical, therapeutic, or pharmacological subgroup.

Fields that Support WHODrug Coding

You can use a WHODrug code to populate information on a Case for External Product and Drug History records.

External Product

On an External Product page, code the WHODrug product details under Registration > Product (Coded).

When you add a WHODrug code, the system populates the following Registration fields:

  • Product (Coded)
  • MPID
  • MPID Version
  • Registration Holder/Applicant
  • Registration Country

Drug History

On a Drug History page, code the WHODrug product details under Product Details > Product (Coded).

When you add a WHODrug code, the system populates the following Product Details fields:

  • Product (Coded)
  • MPID Version
  • MPID
