# Manual Inbox Item Intake

You can manually add _Inbox Items_ to your Vault by [creating new records][3]. For information about how to process _Inbox Items_ in non-English languages, see <a href="/en/lr/01137/">Perform Local Language to English Intake</a>.

## Manually Create an Inbox Item {#create}

To manually create an _Inbox Item_:

1. Navigate to the **Inbox Items** tab.
2. Select **Create**.
3. On the _Create Inbox Item_ page, insert sections and populate <a href="/en/lr/01285/">field values</a> as applicable.
    * If configured by your Admin, you may be able to populate a _Name_ value. If you do this, Vault applies that value to the record. Otherwise, Vault generates the _Name_ using the default naming format.
    * You must populate the _New Info Date_ and _Report Type_ fields.
    * To add child records, such as _Case Contacts_, _Products_, and _Medical Events_, expand the appropriate section, and then select **Add**. You can add multiple records to each section.
    * To open a _Case_ for a [combination product][2], ensure you select the applicable _Combination Product_ type of _Case Product_. Do not select a _Product Constituent_ type of _Case Product_.
4. When you have entered all appropriate data, select **Save**. Vault saves all your entered data information at once, so you do not need to save each record individually.

When you save the record, Vault <a href="/en/lr/760903/#validation">validates</a> the data in each section and notifies you if there are any errors. If there are no errors, Vault creates the _Inbox Item_, which you can access on the _Inbox_ tab. If you create an _Inbox Item_ without any data, Vault automatically adds the following sections for data entry:

* _Case Contact_ for the primary reporter, assigned rank `1` with the _Contact is also Reporter_ checkbox selected.
* _Product_ for the primary suspect product assigned rank `1` with the suspect _Drug Role_ selected.
* _Medical Event_ for the primary adverse event assigned rank `1` with the _Type_ of _Adverse Event_.

      <p><strong>Note</strong>: If a <em>Study</em> changes on a manually created <em>Inbox Item</em> with <em>Case Product</em> information, Vault clears <em>Study Product</em> information on the <em>Inbox Item</em>, including <em>Blinded Name</em> (<em>Study Product Placeholder</em>) field and any open-label or unblinded <em>Study Products</em>.</p>
    </div>
  </div>

## Promote an Inbox Item

When appropriate, you can <a href="/en/lr/01141/">promote the _Inbox Item_ to a _Case_</a>. Depending on your Admin's configuration, Vault may <a href="/en/lr/01131/">automatically promote</a> the _Inbox Item_.

### Combination Products {#combo}

When you promote an _Inbox Item_ for a <a href="/en/lr/01214/#about-combination-products">_Combination Product_</a> type of _Product_, Vault separates the _Combination Product_ and adds each of its _Product Constituents_ as a _Case Product_. On the <a href="/en/lr/917562/#products-section">generated _Case_</a>, Vault does the following:

* Maps _Product Registrations_ for the _Product Constituents_ to the _Case_.
  * In the _Combination Product Registration_ field of each _Case Product_, Vault links the _Product Registration_ for the _Combination Product_. Vault does not populate the _Product Registration_ field.
* For each _Product Constituent_:
  * Maps the _Product Type_ and _Name_ from each _Product Constituent_ to the _Product Type_ and _Product (Coded)_ fields of the _Case Product Registration_.
  * For _Device_-type _Product Constituents_, Vault maps the _Product Code_ from the _Product Registration_ for the _Combination Product_.
  * Maps _Indications_ from the _Inbox Item_ to each _Case Product_.
  * Maps _Dosages_ from the _Inbox Item_ to each non-<em>Device</em>-type _Case Product_.

#### Primary Case Product Designation for Combination Products

Upon _Case_ promotion, Vault designates the primary _Case Product_, using the following logic:

* If there is a _Product Constituent_ set as the PMOA on the _Product Registration_, Vault designates that product as the primary _Case Product_.
* If there are no PMOA _Product Constituents_, the _Case Product_ generated first becomes the primary.

Vault populates the <a href="/en/lr/01214/#pmoa">_PMOA_ field</a> on the _Combination Product Registration_ to indicate the _Product Constituents_ are Primary Mode of Action (PMOA). Vault also attaches a _Case Assessment_ to the applicable _Case Product_. For E2B-imported _Inbox Items_ containing _Combination Products_ with attached _Case Assessments_, Vault copies the imported _Case Assessments_ to the _Product Constituents_.

    <div><i class="far fa-info-circle"></i></div>
    <div class="alert-text">
      <p><strong>Note</strong>: When promoting an E2B-imported <em>Inbox Item</em> with a <em>Combination Product</em> to a follow-up <em>Case</em>, Vault does not copy the imported <em>Case Assessments</em> or <em>Case Assessment Results</em> to the follow-up <em>Case</em>. This known limitation will be addressed in a future release.</p>

#### Enter Combination Product-Related Case Data

Vault supports combination products and device constituents, including device-specific products. You can classify the device report type (malfunction, public health risk, or both) and add additional combination product-related information for the reason a follow-up _Case_ was created. When you select _Combination Product Registration_ for a _Case Product Constituent_, Vault copies all of the registration details to the _Case_.

You can enter data for combination products with device constituents in the following _Case_ sections:

* The <a href="/en/lr/01287/#report-details">_Report Details_</a> section on the _Case_.
* The available combination product and device subsections within the <a href="/en/lr/01287/#products-section">_Products_</a> section.

## <a id="inbox-item-from-document"></a>Manually Create an Inbox Item from a Source Document

Vault may <a href="/en/lr/01139/#aer">automatically generate</a> an _Inbox Item_ for each _Case > Source > Adverse Event Report (AER)_ classified document uploaded to your _Library_. Alternatively, you can <a href="/en/lr/01135/#import-an-e2b-inbox-item">manually import</a> data from a structured E2B or non-E2B file. To intake data from unstructured and semi-structured source documents, we recommend using the <a href="/en/lr/834442/">Document Intake Highlighter</a>.

## <a id="manual-intake-from-emails"></a>Manual Intake from Emails

You can receive emails directly in your Vault and generate _Inbox Items_ from an email source for manual intake. When configured by your Admin, your Vault <a href="/en/lr/715459/">automatically imports E2B data from email attachments</a>.
