Literature Standard Search Terms are records of queries made in databases to search for related literature, such as when importing references from database files or when capturing data on database searches completed outside of Vault. Each Literature Standard Search Term is associated with a particular database, product, and search term.
Each Literature Search Term on a Literature Review is an instance of a Literature Standard Search Term that was executed at a specific point in time and returned a specific result set.
Prerequisites
To create Literature Standard Search Terms, you must:
- Configure the Literature Standard Search Term object layout
- Update the Literature Actions permission set
To include Literature Standard Search Terms in automated PubMed database searches, you must enable Literature Integration to PubMed.
To identify Literature Standard Search Terms that match references imported from database files, you must enable the relevant feature:
- For JAPIC literature references, enable JAPIC Literature Intake
- For IMIC literature references, enable Importing Literature References from Databases
Create Literature Standard Search Terms
To create a Literature Standard Search Term:
- Navigate to Business Admin > Objects > Literature Standard Search Terms.
- Select Create.
- On the Create Literature Standard Search Term page, complete the applicable fields then select Save.
Literature Standard Search Term Fields
The following fields may be available:

Select the Literature Search Group related to this Literature Standard Search Term from the drop-down or select the Advanced Search ( Vault uses this value to group Literature Reviews when conducting automatic literature searches, such as the PubMed database search. |
| Product | Select the Product related to this Literature Standard Search Term from the drop-down or select the Advanced Search icon to use filters and refine your search. |
| Product Family | Select the Product Family related to this Literature Standard Search Term from the drop-down or select the Advanced Search icon to use filters and refine your search. |
| Search Database | Select the database with which this Literature Standard Search Term is registered from the drop-down or select the Advanced Search icon to use filters and refine your search. |

For JAPIC- or IMIC-imported references, enter the unique number associated with this Literature Standard Search Term. Vault uses this value to identify if a matching Literature Search Term or Literature Standard Search Term already exists and to populate fields accordingly. |
| Enable Automatic Search | Select Enabled if you want Vault to include this Literature Standard Search Term when conducting automatic literature searches, such as the PubMed database search. |
| Last Search Date | Vault populates the date that the Literature Standard Search Term was last included in an automatic literature search. |

Enter the actual term associated with this Literature Standard Search Term. This value is used to execute searches. You can include tokens in this field to replace static search strings with dynamic values when Vault runs an automatic literature search. |

The Search Term field allows you to configure a dynamic search query using tokens that represent the Product and Product Family field values on the Literature Review record. Every time Vault runs an automatic literature search, Vault replaces the tokens with the most updated value of the fields they represent, eliminating the need for manually updating the Search Term field every time you update these values.
Vault supports the following tokens in the Search Term field:
