Set up and manage the Japan Drug Dictionary (JDD) for Case processing with JDrug codes.
About Japan Drug Dictionary (JDD) Administration
Vault Safety supports the Japan Drug Dictionary (JDD) when processing Domestic and Localized Cases for Japan. This feature includes lookup and coding of External Products with JDrug codes, which are exported to PMDA E2B(R3) reports when generating Transmissions. When working with Company Products in your Product library, the system maps codes from the Local Product Code field on Japan Product Registration records.
Activating the system-managed dictionary is fast and easy. When new JDD versions are released, they are uploaded to the central dictionary. You control which JDD version the system uses for JDrug coding in your Vault.
Prerequisites
Consider the following prerequisites for managing the JDD:
- Your Admin must complete the required configuration.
- Your organization must maintain a valid JDD license to use the centralized JDD service.
Vault also supports cross-referencing JDrug and WHODrug codes during case processing using the WHODrug Cross Reference Tool (CRT) Japan. For more information, see Enable JDrug and WHODrug Cross Reference Tool.
Update the Active JDrug Version
When new JDD versions become available, you can activate them to make the latest codes available during Domestic and Localized Case processing for Japan.
- Go to Business Admin > Objects > Dictionaries.
- On the Dictionaries page, select the JDrug Dictionary from the table. The JDrug Dictionary page appears. When the list of available JDD versions is out of sync with the server, you see the following notification in the Active JDrug Version field: “The list of available JDrug versions is out of sync with the server. Please sync the JDrug versions to update the list.”
- To sync the list of available JDrug versions, perform the following steps:
- Open the All Actions menu.
- Select Fetch Dictionary Releases. The system retrieves any new versions.
- To activate a JDrug version, perform the following steps:
- On the JDrug Dictionary page, select Edit.
- In the Active JDRUG Version field, select the desired dictionary version from the picklist.
- Select Save.
Result
The system imports the selected version of the JDD. When the import is complete, you receive an email notification.
The status of the JDD becomes Active. When the JDrug Browser is used, the search results are based on the version selected.

Vault Safety supports the following JDD versions:
- JDrug April 2024
- JDrug October 2021
- JDrug August 2021

Sync List of Available JDrug Versions
If your Vault has the latest Active Version field on the layout, you can see when the list of versions on your Vault is out-of-sync with the latest JDD releases.
The field will display the following message when your Vault is out-of-sync: “The list of available JDrug versions is out of sync with the server. Please sync the JDrug versions to update the list.”
If this occurs, you can use the Fetch Dictionary Releases action from the All Actions menu to update the list of available versions.
