Veeva Safety supports coding External Products on domestic Cases and Localized Cases for Japan with Japan Drug Dictionary (JDD) and WHODrug dictionary codes. In Vaults configured with the WHODrug Cross Reference Tool (CRT) Japan, when users code an External Product using either of these dictionaries, Vault applies the corresponding code from the other dictionary to the product. By cross-referencing JDrug and WHODrug codes, Vault eliminates the need to manually code External Products twice and increases coding accuracy and consistency.
When new versions of the WHODrug CRT Japan are released, they are uploaded to your Vault. You control which version Vault uses for cross-referencing codes during case processing.
Prerequisites
Consider the following prerequisites for managing the WHODrug CRT Japan:
- Your Admin must enable JDrug and WHODrug Cross Reference Tool.
- Your organization must maintain valid WHODrug CRT Japan, WHODrug, and JDD licenses.
- You must configure the applicable WHODrug CRT for the active versions of the JDD and WHODrug dictionary in your Vault.
WHODrug CRT Japan Versions
When a new version of the WHODrug CRT Japan is released, it becomes available in your Vault. Vault names WHODrug CRT Japan versions using the format WHODrug MMM YYYY JDrug MMM YYYY, where the dates represent the version of the WHODrug and JDrug dictionary used by the cross-referencing tool.

Update List of Available WHODrug CRT Versions
When a new WHODrug CRT Japan version is available, Vault displays the following message in the Active CRT Version field of the WHODrug CRT Japan Dictionary: The list of available CRT versions is out of sync with the server. Please use the "Fetch Dictionary Release" action to update the list.
To update the list of available versions in the Active CRT Version field:
- Navigate to Business Admin > Objects > Dictionaries > WHODrug CRT Japan.
- From the All Actions menu, select Fetch Dictionary Releases.
Vault imports any available versions that you did not import previously. When the import is complete, you receive an email and Vault notification.
Update the Active WHODrug CRT Japan Version
To update the WHODrug CRT Japan version used during case processing:
- Navigate to Business Admin > Objects > Dictionaries > WHODrug CRT Japan.
- Select Edit.
- In the Active CRT Version field, select the desired WHODrug CRT Japan version from the picklist.
- Select Save.
When the update is complete, Vault sends an email and Vault notification and sets the WHODrug CRT Japan dictionary to Active state. Vault cross-references WHODrug and JDrug codes using that WHODrug CRT Japan version.
